Ron Givens: Full Steam Ahead into Elections 2014!
It’s 2014 and I’ve started out this critical election year at full speed! My favorite part of January in “mid-term” years is getting all the calls and talking with various candidates for local, state and national office. I’m talking with several campaigns and interested parties seeking solid advice and/or consulting, ground- game or public/government relations and messaging services for the new cycle.
My current projects include consulting for and coordinating various types of targeted groups (faith groups, veterans, second amendment advocates, social clubs etc.) and volunteers for a statewide ballot initiative in California for the Rescue California Educational Foundation . Our non-partisan efforts seek to qualify a constitutional amendment in California that will fundamentally change how we send our representatives to Sacramento. Our chief proponent, John Cox, has said that “this effort, if we succeed, will constitute the greatest transfer of power back to We the People since 1776!” It is indeed a lofty and reachable goal and we are now in the process of gathering signatures to qualify this important issue for the November 2014 General Election Ballot. Please visit the link above for more information and to find opportunities to volunteer. n This initiative has been academically vetted by USC Scholars and the California Legislative Analyst’s Office projects that, if passed, Californians will save $1.3 Billion dollars in just legislative costs over the first ten years! Please contact me if you can help gather signatures in your California County to get this on the ballot.
This week I was re-elected to a third term as president of the Sacramento Republican Assembly. We are a grassroots political organization and part of the California Republican Assembly of which I also serve on the state board directors. I am also the Sergeant at Arms for the Sacramento County Republican Central Committee entering my second year in that office. It is my goal to help bring cohesion and trust back to what was a dwindling CRP and I think our efforts are working though we have a ways to go. The Sacramento unit of Conservative Republicans of California, of which I am a founding member, has also asked me to consider serving as president once again for this grassroots team of dedicated conservatives.
I’m serving as the Sacramento GOP Chair for Tim Donnelly for Governor of California have been working to plan and coordinate events and assist with a couple of fundraisers. I’ve have been a surrogate for Assemblyman Donnelly for speaking engagements this year and will be again at the GRAA (Gun Rights Across America) Rally at the State Capitol on Sunday January 19, 2014 at “high noon.’ Join us and “Stand Your Ground!” Team Donnelly is planning a fundraiser for Tim’s campaign to be held in Sacramento County on February 13th at the home of Mike and Diane McCollum. Please send me an email for details and/or to RSVP for this event and/or to become part of the Host Committee.
After much consideration and spending time with the candidates my support for Congressional District 7 (CD7) is solidly behind Elizabeth Emken. Elizabeth is by far the most qualified candidate in this important race and one I believe she will defeat freshman democrat, Ami Bera in November. Please visit www.Emken2014.com for more information about “E” and discover for yourself why Emken is the only reasonable choice in this race. We need E!
As an avid motorcycle enthusiast and founding president of the Grateful Ones Motorcycle Club I was asked to serve as a volunteer Sergeant at Arms for the Modified Motorcycle Association of California. We keep our legislators, right & left, on their toes and are currently seeking an author for a bill that would require training for law enforcement agencies on how not to profile riders based on means or mode of transportation or the clothes we wear. All to often riders are targeted and stopped for no violations of law but rather get hassled by some law enforcement agencies that actually train our public servants to be biased and prejudiced for all of the wrong reasons. Remember this: Motorcycle Clubs are not “street gangs” nor are they made up of criminals. People watch entirely to much TV in this country. Oh yeah: I like to hunt and fish with my family too…you know American Traditions!
There are several great opportunities on the horizon such as Rich Kinney for Assembly District 15 who will be running for the soon to be vacated seat occupied by over the top liberal (D) Nancy Skinner. I’m also trying to talk my dear friend, Jonathan Zachariou, into running for office in either his state senate or assembly district. Jonathan is one of the finest men I know and, like all of the other candidates I support, is a person of deeply held faith and integrity.
I’ll be looking forward to seeing you all somewhere on the campaign trial and welcome your comments, feedback and suggestions as always. Happy New Year!
